Conventional Magnets: Basics
They have two poles with one side of the magnet being a North (or positive) pole and the other side of the magnet being a South (or negative) pole.

When place in a magnetic field, magnetic dipoles tend to align their axes to be parallel with the
magnetic field.

They will attract and attach to metal. Most uses of conventional magnets involve attachment to metal.
Their magnetic interaction is binary where like poles repel and opposite poles attract. Interacting conventional magnets will tend to orient themselves such that they attract and attach to each other.
